Always keep your toothbrush clean. It is easy to forget how important your toothbrush cleanliness needs to be, but given that it’s inserted into our mouths daily, we should take a little extra care to ensure they remain in immaculate condition. Brushing your teeth is also one of the most important habits we can do to protect our teeth and gums, so keeping a healthy brush goes a long way in the battle for our oral health.

The first step for effective toothbrush care is to ensure that toothbrushes are not shared. Additionally, avoid any form of cross-contamination by avoiding sharing your brush, or letting it touch other brushes. Always keep your brush clean when not in use. Do not store it in closed containers for long periods of time.

The style and shape of your toothbrush is also important. Always use a toothbrush that fits easily in your mouth. Try to find a brush with soft bristles, as stiff bristles can be overly abrasive or harmful to your gums. If you struggle to brush your teeth, electric toothbrushes can make brushing easier.

Replace your toothbrush every three to four months. Always look for a brush with the ADA Seal of Acceptance. The same goes for toothpaste. Although daily brushing is effective, visit us at Quality Dental Care at least every six months for an oral exam or professional cleaning.

Brushing your teeth with a clean brush twice daily can help prevent tooth decay and gum disease caused by plaque buildup.
